Forty Dollars for Forty Years
The Tiffin Community Foundation, originally known as The Tiffin Charitable Foundation, was founded in 1983 by Attorney Charles D. “Bud” Hering, Jr., Jane Frost Kalnow, Fred Corbin, Fred Spurck, and Gordon Wagner with the assistance of Warren Kahn of Commercial National Bank. In 2023, The Tiffin Community Foundation celebrates 40 years of funding futures in Tiffin and Seneca County and awarding over $15 million in grants since 1983. After the untimely death of Bud Hering in 1992, his son-in-law Brent Howard carried the box of files labeled Tiffin Charitable Foundation into his office and engaged the community to re-ignite the mission of the foundation. Since that time the Hering Family remains committed to the work of the Foundation. After serving on the Board of Trustees and the White Fund Grant Committee, Bud’s daughter Anne Gase and her family started the Gase Literacy Fund to support literacy in the community. They continue to work diligently to provide funding for books to children birth to 5 years of age in the 44883 zip code. Bud’s daughter Susan Hering Howard served on the White Grant Committee of the Foundation for many years. Anne and Susan each dropped off a special “Anniversary” contribution of $40 this week to commemorate the work of the Foundation over the last 40 years. Although not the largest gifts the Hering Family has ever made, the significance of the $40 gifts to honor 40 years of community service is truly what the foundation is all about. “Every gift to the Tiffin Community Foundation has a ripple effect, no matter how large or small,” says the Foundation Director, Jodie Reinbolt. “Consider making your $40 gift to the Tiffin Community Foundation today and join us in October to hear how we will use your contributions to support the future of our community for the next 40 years!”
